Ten properties of titanium

1. Low density and high specific strength
The density of titanium is 4.51g/cm3, higher than aluminum and lower than steel, copper, nickel, but the specific strength is the first metal.

2, corrosion resistance
Titanium is a very active metal, its equilibrium potential is very low, and the thermodynamic corrosion tendency in the medium is large. But in fact, titanium is very stable in many media, such as titanium in oxidizing, neutral and weak reducing media is corrosion resistant. This is because titanium and oxygen have a great affinity, in the air or oxygen-containing medium, the surface of titanium generates a dense, strong adhesion, inert oxide film, protecting the titanium matrix from corrosion. Even due to mechanical wear, it will quickly self-heal or regenerate. This indicates that titanium is a metal with a strong passivation tendency. The oxide film of titanium at a medium temperature below 315℃ always maintains this characteristic.

The new titanium alloy can be used for a long time at temperatures of 600℃ or higher.

3, good low temperature resistance
The low-temperature titanium alloys represented by titanium alloys TA7 (Ti-5Al-2.5Sn), TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) and Ti-2.5Zr-1.5Mo increase their strength with the decrease of temperature, but the plasticity changes little. It maintains good ductility and toughness at -196~-253℃, avoids cold brittleness of metal, and is an ideal material for equipment such as low temperature containers.

4. Strong anti-damping performance
Titanium is subjected to mechanical vibration, electrical vibration, compared with steel, copper metal, its own vibration attenuation time is the longest. Using this property of titanium can be used as tuning fork, medical ultrasonic crusher vibration element and advanced sound speaker vibration film.

5, Non-magnetic, non-toxic
Titanium is a non-magnetic metal, will not be magnetized in a large magnetic field, non-toxic and has a good compatibility with human tissue and blood, so it is used by the medical community.

6 The tensile strength is close to its yield strength
This performance of titanium shows that its yield ratio (tensile strength/yield strength) is high, indicating that the metal titanium material is poor in plastic deformation during forming. Due to the large ratio between the yield limit and the elastic modulus of titanium, the springback ability of titanium during molding is large.

7, good heat transfer performance
Although the thermal conductivity of titanium metal is lower than carbon steel and copper, due to the excellent corrosion resistance of titanium, the wall thickness can be greatly reduced, and the heat transfer method between the surface and the steam is droplet condensation, which reduces the thermal resistance, and the surface of titanium does not scale can also reduce the thermal resistance, so that the heat transfer performance of titanium is significantly improved.

8. Low elastic modulus
The elastic modulus of titanium is 106.4MPa at room temperature, which is 57% of that of steel.

9. Inspiratory performance
Titanium is a very chemically active metal that reacts with many elements and compounds at high temperatures. Titanium inhalation mainly refers to the reaction with carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and oxygen at high temperatures.
