Grade 15 Welded Steel Pipe Manufacturing Processes

GB/T13793-2008 in Grade 15 The production process and technology of welded steel pipe usually contains the following key steps:

Firstly, raw material preparation, select the steel that meets the standard requirements, ensure that its chemical composition and mechanical properties are up to standard. Then the steel is cut and shaped, and the steel is processed into the required billet shape.

In the welding process, common methods include arc welding and resistance welding. Arc welding forms a weld by generating an electric arc that locally melts the electrode and the weldment. Resistance welding, on the other hand, makes use of the resistance heat generated by the electric current passing through the contact surface of the weldment and the neighbouring area. During the welding process, the welding parameters, such as current, voltage, welding speed, etc., should be strictly controlled to ensure the quality and strength of the weld.

After the welding is completed, the weld needs to be treated. This includes removing the residual height of the weld, grinding the surface of the weld to make it flat and smooth, and reducing the stress concentration.

Subsequently, the heat treatment of the steel pipe is carried out to improve the organisational structure and properties of the steel pipe through the process of heating and cooling, and to improve its strength and toughness.

In the whole production process, strict quality inspection is also required. Such as appearance inspection to see whether there are cracks, porosity and other defects on the surface of the steel pipe; non-destructive testing, such as ultrasonic testing, ray testing, etc., to detect whether there are defects inside the weld.

In addition, dimensional testing is also essential to measure the dimensions of the steel pipe, such as the outer diameter, wall thickness, length, etc., to ensure that it meets the tolerance range specified in the standard. Only through a series of strict production process and process control, as well as comprehensive quality inspection, can we produce welded steel pipe that meets the requirements of Grade 15 in GB/T13793-2008 standard.
