20CrMo steel equivalent
20CrMo steel is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel commonly used for high-strength applications such as gears, shafts, and other components that require excellent hardness, toughness, and fatigue resistance. When looking for equivalent grades of 20CrMo steel in various standards, several steel grades from different regions can be considered suitable based on their similar chemical composition and mechanical properties.
European Equivalent:
The European equivalent of 20CrMo steel is generally 42CrMo4. Both grades contain similar amounts of chromium and molybdenum, which contribute to their high strength, good toughness, and excellent hardenability. 42CrMo4 is widely used in the automotive and mechanical engineering industries for components such as gears, axles, and crankshafts.
American Equivalent:
In the United States, the closest equivalents are AISI 4130 and AISI 4140. AISI 4130 is a chromium-molybdenum alloy steel that shares similar characteristics with 20CrMo steel and is commonly used in aerospace and automotive industries. AISI 4140, while slightly higher in carbon content, is also suitable for similar applications that require high strength and toughness.
Japanese Equivalent:
In Japan, the equivalent of 20CrMo steel is typically SCM420. This is another chromium-molybdenum steel with similar properties and applications, often used for high-strength parts in automotive and industrial machinery applications.
Chinese Equivalent:
In China, 20CrMo steel is directly used under the same designation, as it is a recognized steel grade in Chinese standards. It is commonly used in industries requiring high-strength components and corrosion resistance in harsh environments.
Indian Equivalent:
In India, 20CrMo steel can be considered equivalent to grades like IS 1570 Grade 1 or IS 2002 Grade 1, although these Indian grades may not always be a direct match in terms of chemical composition. However, for applications requiring high strength and wear resistance, these grades are often used in similar industries such as automotive, power generation, and machinery.
In summary, 20CrMo steel is most closely equivalent to 42CrMo4 in Europe, AISI 4130 or AISI 4140 in the United States, SCM420 in Japan, and directly as 20CrMo 20CrMo steel in China. For India, IS 1570 Grade 1 or IS 2002 Grade 1 may be considered as alternatives. Each equivalent offers similar mechanical properties, making them suitable for high-strength, high-toughness applications.
